The Pennfield High School varsity girls’ basketball team had their MHSAA state tournament run come to an end on Monday night at Williamston High School, when they were defeated by I-8 rival Western High School 50-29 in the regional semifinal.
Pennfield fell behind 19-5 after the first quarter and trailed 34-21 at the halftime intermission. The deficit grew to 40-24 after the third quarter and the Lady Panthers could not mount a comeback in the final period.
Sophomore, Kaylee Glidden led Pennfield with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior, Sadie Drawhorn added 6 points and 3 assists. Senior, Abby Schwartz finished with 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.
The varsity girls’ basketball team captured their first MHSAA district championship in over a decade last week with three heart pounding victories over Eaton Rapids, Charlotte and Olivet to advance to the regional. They finished their season at 9-13.
