The Pennfield High School varsity boys’ basketball team won their first district championship since 1992 last week to advance to the MHSAA regional semifinal, where they defeated I-8 rival Western High School on Tuesday night 75-34 to advance to the regional championship game on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
The Panthers led 15-12 after the first quarter and blew the game open with a 22-4 second quarter, to take a commanding 37-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half was all Pennfield as they cruised to the victory over their I-8 rivals.
Junior, Luke Davis led all scorers with 19 points. Senior, Ryne Petersen added 18 points and 11 rebounds while junior, Aiden Burns collected 13 points and 4 assists. Senior, Connor McCleary scored 12 points off the bench.
The varsity boys’ basketball team will play in the regional final on April 1st against host Williamston High School. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
