Girls Varsity Basketball · Varsity Girls’ Basketball Captures MHSAA District Championship Over Olivet

The Pennfield High School varsity girls’ basketball team traveled to Hastings High School on Friday night for the MHSAA district championship game against non-conference rival Olivet High School.  The Lady Panthers defeated the Eagle by the final score of 45-43 to win the MHSAA Class B district title.  They will advance to the MHSAA regional tournament next week at Williamston High School.  Pennfield improved to 9-12 overall.

The Lady Panthers were led by senior, Abby Schwartz who had a game high 21 points along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.  Fellow seniors, Sadie Drawhorn and Ellie Noffsinger added 9 points and 7 point respectively.  Junior, Kylie Crandall pulled down a team high 8 rebounds and sophomore, Kaylee Glidden added 6 points and 7 rebounds.

Pennfield trailed 15-9 after the first quarter but cut the deficit to 25-24 at halftime.  They took the lead in the third quarter and entered the final period leading 39-35.  They built their lead to 6 points early in the fourth quarter and survived a late comeback by Olivet to advance.

The varsity girls’ basketball team will open MHSAA regional play on Monday, March 29th at Williamston High School against I-8 rival Western High School.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
