Girls Varsity Basketball · Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team Advances to the District Championship Game ….

The Pennfield High School varsity girls’ basketball team traveled to Hastings High School again last night for the semifinals of the MHSAA Division 2 district tournament.  Their opponent was Charlotte High School out of the Capital Area Activities Conference.

The game was closely contested throughout.  Charlotte led 13-8 after the first quarter and 23-21 at halftime.  The Lady Panthers fought back to tie the game at 29-29 heading into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter, there were several lead changes before Charlotte hit a late 3 point field goal to tie the game at 36-36 and force overtime.  In the extra session, Pennfield regained the lead midway through the overtime period and iced the game with some clutch free throws in the final minute by senior, point guard, Abby Schwartz.

The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore, Kaylee Glidden who had a game high 18 points and collected 10 rebounds.  Seniors, Sadie Drawhorn and Schwartz added 9 points and 8 points respectively.  Schwartz added a team high 8 assists and 5 steals.  Junior, Kylie Crandall grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

The varsity girls’ basketball team will advance to the MHSAA District 50 championship game on Friday, March 26th at Hastings High School.  They will be opposed by non-conference rival Olivet High School.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.  The winner will advance to the MHSAA Division 2 regional tournament hosted by Williamston High School beginning on Monday, March 29th.
