The Pennfield High School varsity girls’ basketball team hosted I-8 rival Marshall High School on Thursday evening. The Lady Panthers and the Lady Redhawks fought back and forth throughout the night in a closely contested league game before the visitors prevailed in the end by the score of 42-37. With the close setback Pennfield drops to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the I-8.
Marshall led 11-7 after the first quarter only to see the Lady Panthers close the deficit to 17-16 at halftime. Pennfield opened the second half with a strong surge and took the lead and held onto that lead after three quarters 30-27. However, the Lady Redhawks scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter to open up an eight point lead 38-30 about midway through the final quarter. The Lady Panthers closed to within one point late but could not overtake Marshall in the closing minutes.
Senior, Abby Schwartz led Pennfield with 15 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Junior, Kylie Crandall added 6 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Senior, Sadie Drawhorn pulled down a team high 8 rebounds.
The varsity girls basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, February 20th when they travel across town to I-8 rival Harper Creek High School. Game time is scheduled for 1:00pm.
