Panthers News · Winter Sports Scheduled to Resume Activities on January 16th …

The Pennfield High School athletic department is finalizing plans to resume winter sports activities for our high school teams beginning Saturday, January 16th.   The current health department orders that suspended all winter sports activities in November are set to expire at midnight on January 15th.  Barring an extension of these orders, practices will resume for high school winter sports teams as early as this weekend.

The girls basketball teams along with the competitive cheer teams had begun their winter preparations prior to this shutdown and they will resume activities on Saturday.  The boys’ basketball teams, the wrestling teams, the boys & girls bowling teams, and the cooperative boys’ swim team had not begun practices for the winter season prior to the November suspension of activities.

Those student-athletes who want to participate in boys’ basketball, wrestling, bowling or boys’ swim must complete the athletic registration process prior to any participation.  Completion of the registration process includes turning in the following paperwork to the athletic office for approval and obtaining a signed winter registration card from the athletic office.

  1.  A current athletic physical or an MHSAA Health Questionnaire (if a physical is on file from last year)
  2.  A signed Training Rules & Understanding Form
  3.  A signed Concussion Form
  4.  A signed winter sports permission form

Winter athletic registration for any high school student can be completed in the athletic office at Pennfield High School on Thursday, January 14th from 3:00-5:00pm or on Friday, January 15th from 12:00-3:00pm.

Athletic activity at the middle school level will resume on Monday, January 18th with practices for the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball teams at 5:30-7:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm respectively.

The middle school competitive cheer team will begin tryouts on January 18th at 6:30-8:00pm.  Any young lady who would like to try out for the cheer team will need to turn in all the above required paperwork to either the middle school main office or the athletic office at the high school prior to any participation.

The winter II season at the middle school level which includes girls 7th and 8th grade basketball and wrestling will begin after the conclusion of the winter I season in mid-February.
