The Pennfield High School varsity football team welcomed perennial I-8 contender, Lumen Christi to town last Friday afternoon and defeated the Titans by the score of 28-20. The victory improves the Panthers record to 2-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Pennfield scored in the second quarter and went to the locker room with a 6-0 lead at halftime. Midway through the third quarter the Panthers scored again to build their lead to 14-0. Lumen Christi answered with a touchdown to close the gap to 14-6 going into the fourth quarter. Both teams traded scores early in the fourth quarter and the Panther lead was 22-14 when Lumen Christi took over deep in their own territory looking for a tying score. That is when senior, Cullen Reed intercepted a Titan pass and returned it for a touchdown to push the Pennfield lead to 28-14. The Titans scored in the final minute to close to 28-20 but Pennfield recovered the onside kick and were able to run out the clock.
The victory sent the Homecoming crowd home happy and secured a huge win for the Panther football team as they head into the final two weeks of the regular season looking to build momentum.
The varsity football team will be back in action on Friday, October 16th when they travel to Northwest High School for another I-8 conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
