The Pennfield High School varsity boys’ basketball team hosted their I-8 rivals from Marshall High School in the MHSAA district championship game last Friday night. This game was highly anticipated as these two team split their regular season contests, each winning on their home floor. As expected a very energetic and boisterous crowd came out to see the third battle between these two league foes.
The low scoring, defensive battle was closely contested throughout, with neither team able to gain more than a six point lead. The Panthers led 8-4 after the first quarter and 13-12 at halftime. The Redhawks took a 23-21 lead after three quarters and held on for the hard fought 44-39 victory.
The Panthers were led in scoring by senior, Keagan Burns who had a game high 19 points. Sophomore, Ryne Petersen added 14 points and four assists. Pennfield ended their season with a 14-9 overall record.
