The Pennfield High School varsity volleyball team traveled to Coldwater High School on Saturday to compete in the Interstate 8 Athletic Conference volleyball tournament. The Lady Panthers entered play as the #5 seed and defeated #4 seed Harper Creek in their first match to move into the semifinal round. There they were defeated by #1 seed Coldwater.
In the victory over Harper Creek, Pennfield advanced by the scores of 25-18, 15-25, 16-14. In their loss to Coldwater the scores were 14-25 and 20-25.
Seniors Shelby Smyers and Alicia Lake led the way offensively with 16 kills and 15 kills on the day. Senior, Grace Hall led the Lady Panthers with 30 digs. Junior, Kelsey Kemerling and sophomore, Abigail Schwartz each had 22 assists.
The varsity volleyball team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 24th when they host non-conference foe Portage Northern High School in the season’s final regular season dual match. This will be the annual Parent’s Night game for the volleyball program. All parents of the freshmen, JV and varsity teams will be admitted free of charge and the parent’s of the varsity team will be introduced and recognized with their daughters prior to the start of the varsity match. The sub-varsity matches are scheduled to begin at 5:15pm and the varsity match at approximately 6:30pm.
