The Pennfield High School varsity softball team entered the MHSAA district tournament last Saturday at Coldwater High School riding a six game winning streak.  The Lady Panthers continued to play good softball in the semifinals where they defeated I-8 rival Marshall High School 13-2 in five innings.

Katie Lenz earned the victory on the mound as she fanned two in the game.  The offense was on full display against the Red Hawks and there were contributions from many.  Alicia Lake went 2 for 4 with a home run, double and two RBI.  Kaylee Clothier was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, Brianna Abercrombie went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI, and Haley Hooper was 2 for 4 and scored three times as Pennfield advanced to the finals.

In the championship game, the Lady Panthers fell behind early and were never able to overcome the early deficit falling to Olivet High School 7-1.  Katie Lenz started and took the loss.  Alicia Lake came on and struck out four in relief.  The offense was led by Kaylee Clothier and Katie Baird who each went 2 for 3.  Macy Borden was 1 for 2 for Pennfield.

The varsity softball team finished the season with an overall record of 21-18.
